Choosing roller derby has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Coming from a non-sporting background with bad co-ordination and balance I never dreamed how far it would take me.
It took me a while to pass my Minimum Skills but with determination, training and support I did it! Since then I have seen, done and achieved so much both as part of SCRD and by seeking out challenges and adventures on my own.
My hard work paid off when I was given a position on the A-team and have played games with them across the UK and Europe. To improve my skills and game play I sought out boot camps, mixed scrims and tournaments around the country, making lots of new friends along the way.
I also involved myself in other roles such as NSO-ing and volunteering which led me to being part of the crew for the 2018 Women’s World Cup in Manchester and the 2018 Men’s World Cup in Barcelona.
As well as skating I am a part of the team’s General committee and am actively involved in the decision-making process of running the team. Additionally, I use my experiences to help coach new beginners. Playing roller derby and being part of the SCRD family has helped me discover new found strength, courage and belief in myself and my abilities within the sport and in my everyday life.
